I started brewing last Cecember. My first beer was an extract brown ale. It must have gotten a bug it was nasty. So sour it was like vinigar. I said to hell with this and then I found Beersmith and went all grain. I have become a brewing madman. I brew every week and have joined the local brew club. O-Town Hop Heads of Ogden Utah.

All grain is more work but more fun. I switched to all grain three brews ago. Won't be going back to partial mash. I just budget the whole day and take my time and enjoy.

All grain does rock - in fact I'll be talking about BIAB (a simple method for all grain) at the national homebrew conference next month.

Hey Brad. Thanks for the update. Strangely after installing it wiped out all my custom recipes. Also in the past when changing the document directory it has wiped out any recipes in the new directory. It would be nice to just import those recipes instead of wiping them out. Thankfully I have backups because it would be devastating to lose these permanently. The cloud really solves the issue but not if your run disconnected. Thanks again!

Obviously it should not wipe out anything when you upgrade - drop me an email (use contact us at the bottom of the page) and I'll see if I can help you out.

Hey Brad! Thanks for the new features. I really like that I have a quick and easy place to backup and access my recipes. One note though...more technical than anything, have you considered getting an SSL Certificate for the login mechanism? I would have a little bit more piece of mind knowing my password wasn't being sent as clear text.

I'll look into it - when I built the dedicated servers to support this I think they give me a free certificate or two. However, I would also need to update BeerSmith since its not using an SSL connection currently.

I just enabled sorting for most search terms in the refine search section. You can sort by rating, name, abv, or most recently modified. If you don't see the search box refine your terms - for example searching 'ale' will not show the box since there are many thousands of ales until you refine it further.

Hi Brad! Love the new program and I'm really enjoying the recipe database. Is the Berliner Weisse style a subcategory of one of the popular styles? If not can it be added? One of my favorite summer styles of beer. Thanks!

Thanks - glad to hear you are enjoying it. Berliner Weisse is BJCP category 17A, which you can get from the styles page. We only have a few recipes in it to date, but hopefully someone will add more.

Hey Brad, I was looking at your first All Grain recipe and wondering how it turned out for you? Is there a way to comment on recipes with submitting a rating? Thanks, loving this new version!

No - you do need to include a rating. Which recipe were you looking at?

That was not actually mine - Simon (I believe from Australia) created that one. I posted some recipes from the BeerSmith recipe archive on this site to get things started.

Hi Brad, since there will be A LOT of recipes, I was wondering if you could sort of give a star or recognition ribbon or icon for a well-known recipe. For instance, if there´s a clone to dogfish head 60 min IPA, and that clone recipe came FROM THE BREWER, then you could add this tag or ribbon. And if a certain recipe won the NHC, you could also award that recipe with an icon or ribbon. This way we could really distinguis the good recipes from the bad, cause the rating system isn´t always faithful to a good recipe.

I think its a great idea - though I might need a few volunteers to help me moderate. It would not be hard to add a ribbon - the hard part is moderating the requests which I assume would be manual. It does look like we're going to have a few recipes here.
