Notes
Hit mash temp a little high. Mash went from 158 to about 154 over the hour. JUst read my notes from the Smoked Thunder Thief which told me to sparge with 2.6-2.7 gallons of water - TOO LATE! Sparged with 3 gallons, and didn't have enough space to hold both first running and sparge water. Ladeled a little bit out of the combined wort to fit the rest of the first runnings in the kettle. Boil was normal. Pre-boil gravity was 1.050, which seems a little low. Estimated was 1.065.
Did a whirpool addition of "whatever was left". Added .25 oz of Centennial, as there was none left from the original 1 oz packet after the boil. Split the whirlpool hops into two equal looking additions, added one at flameout, the other 15 minutes post flameout, until 30 minutes post flameout, then began chilling the wort. Topped off with 21.5 cups (1.34 gallons) of water, to bring to 5 gallons. Once again, forgot to factor in starter volume into the final wort volume, so ended up with about 5.5 gallons finished product.
Pitched at 67-68. OG a little low - 1.051, giving us about 61% efficiency. This Recipe Has Not Been Rated
