Taste Notes
Mash at 66 C or 151 F. This is Dr Smurto's favourite version. This beer is one of the most widely home-brewed beers in Australia, extremely popular to a wide range of palates and a robust recipe meaning that it can be varied in many ways with little risk. Source: Mark SmithRatings

Just brewed recently perfect balance between malt and hops will become one of my regular brews
Very Tasty!
by critterzThis was my 5th all grain batch and everyone likes it a lot! The dark beer and the lager drinkers both. I will definitely be brewing this one again and again!

Citra substitute works great
by jmc1beersmithI couldn't get Amarillo so I dry hopped with Citra with fantastic results. Great Hop aroma and flavor without too much bitter.
excellent
by jrwrenUsed centennial cuz they were so cheap and I'm cheap. Used California Ale Yeast and turned out great.

A nice "go to" beer. A dark golden in color. Light hop nose.Slight bitter up front ,but mellows quickly.Dry finish. Overall really nice brew. Will surely make another batch of this.Sure to please many palates.
Yummmm
by ripvdubLove this recipe. Boiled with Amarillo, dry hoppped with Citra, and Wyeast apa yeast. Cant wait to make it again.
A New Favorite, by the recipe and with variations
by BlackForestBrewerFirst batch had to be with S-04 and Aurora Hops (Super Styrian), since my homebrew supplier was out of US-05 and Amarillo, and turned out great. I used to brew a tiny bit in Oklahoma, but this was my first brew (Nov 2013) since moving to Germany in 2008. Since then have made the exact recipe and I will be making variations on this grain bill again.
Great recipe
by otterbreathMy second AG brew - and best so far. The fisrt was pretty bad to be honest but this is a decent drink. Not so great for the first month or so but now a couple of months in it is bar far the best I have brewed beating all my extract efforts.
Easily varied is spot on.
by jonledrewI just put this in my kegerator. Great beer. Dry and clean with S-04. Swapped in Centennial for bittering, cascade for aroma as there were no Amarillo to be found locally. Dry hopped with a little cascade as well. Will be making another variation of this again for the summer.
good stuff
by henry503I did make some minor changes. I followed the recipe to except for I used 1oz and 1oz of Amarillo at 60 and 30. Then 1oz Saffale at 15 and .5 oz Saaz at 5 min.I also added a few pounds of chrystal malt. Came out great, boosted the og to 1.055 and FG of 1.008 double fermented, recipe was a little darker in color than I'd hoped but delicious. very drinkable with an est ABV 6.2%
Fantastic Starter
by Churchy88This was my first All grain, was easy, fun and tastes great, will be keeping this in the book :)
Pale and Pear
by TrueBrewI might have mucked up the grain selection as mine came out more like a pale ale but it was so good anyway. Pear flavours and aromas and completely quaffable. I will make this again for sure. Thank goodness for Beersmith so I could save the recipe!
Yum
by taztigerExcellent recipe. Have made a few different versions with my latest being Cascade and Mosaic hops. Always very popular to keep on one of my taps.
by J-Man
Have brewed this a few times and it is always a hit. Left the caramunich out once by mistake, still was a great brew. This will be brewed again.
Bravo
by findingdomMade this 3 times so far and it was excellent every time. I plan on making this my go to brew. I will see how this grain bill works with other hops but I expect the same results.
Nice One
by junglejohnI made a couple of changes and used Australian grains. Loved it. Put another straight on after tasting. A good hot weather beer. No wonder Aussies love to brew it.
Excellent
by drifting79I brewed up this beer 6 weeks ago currently drinking this recipe so nice mine is a little cloudy no gelatine and has been chilled for a week now so I'm guessing a little chill haze
But all in all a great beer perhaps the best flavoured beer for less knowledgeable drinkers
Most of my mates don't like my more technical beers
Being in australia this will be very popular
Bloody ripper
by QBDIXCFirst AG after many many years extract. But his is an amazing beer, great all rounder. Rave reviews from mates, definitely a go back to. Thanks f or sharing.
Awesome
by nickjones1232 weeks in primary, 1.5 weeks conditioning so far (set aside 8 bottles and kegged the rest) and had my first taste yesterday.. This beer is awesome already.. Can't wait to see what it's like in a few more weeks!
Tasty
by zt67638Munich malt definitely shines through the most (at least for me) in this recipe. Pilsner balances it well and keeps this a lighter, refreshing drink. I used warrior for bittering and cascade for aromatics. Just a good clean, sweet, mostly malty flavor with a dry and crisp finish. I think next time I would bump up the hope a bit, but as it is,its just very smooth and easy to drink. If you like a little bite to your beer, I'd push the IBUs to in the 40's
Excellent, very popular
by cunnolFermented a few degrees too high due to a warm spell, still turned out great. Served at the BBQ the day after a wedding, went down a treat. Think this'll be my house brew.
Very good Pale Ale!
by hlsheppardI used 100% Nugget hops (what I had on hand) and it came out great. 5.6% ABV and it tasted like a cross between Fat Tire and Sam Boston Lager. Big hit with my BJCP buddy and beer loving friends alike.
Bulletproof
by NeiliusI am an absolute novice. I made every mistake in the book when I brewed this beer, too hot, too much water, too long.... and it still worked perfectly. Better tasting than anything from the bottle shop. Smurto, I love you <3
Love it
by w1ntaI brewed this for the first time and im really impressed. This will be a regular brew from now.

nicie and balanced
by mapuluxoNormally i'm sceptical when it comes to AG brews but this strikes the perfect balance. Nice one.
One of my favorites
by dionlimaSimple and very good beer, for best results age 3 weeks in the bottle
House Favourite
by ArdorBrewingCoI've brewed this multiple times. One of my favourite beers. Great session beer. I now use WLP001 and I dry hop with 1oz of Amarillo for 4 days. Gelatine fining with cold crash after dry hopping. Great colour, clarity, and balance.
Very great base recipe
by DrFoxsBreweryI've made this recipe twice now. The first time I made it to a T and it was great. The second time I used it as a base then added a bit more 2-row, more hops, pitched it onto a WLP500 cake, then dry hopped it. It turned out amazing!!
Very nice
by secuspecRecalculated this to a 20l Braumeister using Nesto's equipment profile.
Excellent result with OG and FG perfectly right.
Very tasty and very drinkable. Will brew it again!
Marris Otter??
by tphenicie66I love this beer and it's a flagship staple on my tap at home. Anyone every use Marris Otter vice Pilsner w/London Ale yeast on this?
Excellent brew
by Jimbo47I modified to use JW ale malt as base and reduced the darker malts to compensate. Great recipe.
GOOD
by linda1998Very good sharing, I like it very much, and I think everyone may want to know the history of beer.

Excelente receita!
by danieldpsrjAdorei o sabor balanceado do lúpulo e malte. Utilizei columbus e mandarina. Um balde com US-05 e outro com S-04. Os resultados foram surpreendentes. Gostei muito dos dois, apesar do US-05 ter ficado mais neutro e o S-04 deu um frutado que caiu muito bem na receita.

Nice one
by IvyShedBeen brewing this since the old days on AHB and will keep in my rotation until I'm pushing up the daisies. All the best, from pomo.
Easy and tasty
by HeathsBrewHouseFirst all grain brew in the Brewzilla.
Easy to follow recipe, and hit all estimated numbers.
Very enjoyable beer, even mates liked it. Will definitely keep this recipe on file.
The BEST all-around beer!
by GogoBroueIt's first homebrewed I made... I've made many others since, but I always come back to it. I now have a Kegerator, and I always have this one on tap. A must for every beer lover!

Great base recipe
by dan00075This recipe is incredibly flexible. I have brewed this recipe a couple of dozen times, with great results every time I ventured outside the base recipe with different hops and/or a slightly different grain bill. You can easily make a hop monster by using different hops/yeast - Voss Kveik works great for some strong mango presence. Or just do a whirlpool hop addition after flameout at around 80C for a good 10 minutes. US-05 gives great results, of course.
