Taste Notes

Head retention on this beer is very good and creamy. Big coconut nose as expected and has a presence all the way through the taste, but in different ways. I really thought there was going to be too much, but great. There is a bit of chocolate nose, but most of it is that first mouth and then tapers a bit. Very smooth and creamy. The Oatmeal Stout base gives it that nice oatmeal and grain base that holds it all up.

Notes

Inspired by German Chocolate Cake. We made this with extract a few months ago and everyone really loved it, even those who tend not to drink flavored beers. The base recipe uses the Oatmeal Stout recipe from http://www.beerandwinemakers.com as a base.  Now we are duplicating it with all grain. The first recipe had a little too much chocolate for me (8oz) so we are going down to (6oz) on this one. I'll update. The coconut adds sugar especially after browning which simplifies the sugar a bit and may change some of these #s. I'm assuming that the Coconut is sterile as it's in a package on the supermarket shelf for dryhop, but the browning also sterilizes. Worked out ok.
