Taste Notes

THIS VERSION NAILS IT. Perhaps a bit dark, but it’s well balanced. Great head retention. The black cardamom is a mystery to most people and they can’t quite place the flavor. It’s there, center stage, but well within drinkability and not so heavy as to hit you over the head. The smoky flavor goes well with the dark brown beer. This is a very close replica of the Kungaloosh Expedition Ale found at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Tiffen’s Restaurant (by Concrete Brewery out of Miami). The additional spices are almost masked out by the black cardamom, and the very light touch of hops adds a clean crispness. This works well as a summer brew or as a warming winter ale.

Notes

Brew 11/27/2021 NOTE 1: Mashed in at 156F. Stayed high for a bit. NOTE 2: I only had 8g of black cardamom Used Sorghum syrup (previous time was Rice syrum) 75 min. steep. All spices in coffee grinder, put into hop spider about for last 8 minutes of the boil and then pulled on flameout. BOTTLED 12/13/2020 Gravity seems a bit high. Smells good. Tastes roasty toasty. Good all around flavor. DID NOT USE CLARIFICATION AGENT (lets see if that impacts head retention)

"Expedition Ale" a clone of Kungaloosh Spiced Ale

by mizraith

This version nails the Disney World Animal Kingdom Kungaloosh Spiced Ale. Tasty, dark, but still refreshing. Capable of holding off spicy foods as well. Enjoy!
