Taste Notes
Description:
Originally intended to be a Triple IPA, in the end turned out to be a milletwine due to the fact that the Goldfinch malt likely isn't Goldfinch. Regardless, the beer itself turned into a great milletwine with an incredible hoppy aroma and flavor. Conan yeast help bring all the hops together with the deep caramel and toffee flavors from the unknown malt (maybe roasted caramillet). Its not the prettiest beer as I was going for hazy IPA like feel, but it is incredibly smooth. I would recommend adding whirlfloc at the end of the boil to clarify
12/20
- Deep caramel and toffee notes with a candied fruit hop presence. Decent amount of dank, but not overwhelming. Also has lots of grapefruit and citrus to it as well. Smooth mouthfeel and goes down easy for a 10% beer.
Notes
Brewday: 16 Nov 2019
Prep
- Organized grains and equipment the night before
- Added about 1lb of rice hulls to the bottom of the mash tun
- Ground rice and buckwheat down to 0.65mm (running through twice)
- Ground millet to smallest setting (running through twice)
Mash:
- Mashed in over 175degF with about 4 gallons of hot liquor concurrently with 1 lb of cereal mashed quinoa
- Added about 7 quarts of 60 deg F water to drop temp down below 145ish degF
- First running ran at 16.8 Brix or 1.067 SG for about 3 gallons
- Second running measured at 12 Brix or 1.047 SG
- Added FWH after transferring to brew pot
- Finished with gallons at 1.0 SG
Boil:
- Boiled about 1.5 to 2 hours until wort was reduced to 3 gallons
Fermentation:
- Notes lost for specific aeration and pitching
- This should have been the third or fourth time repitching the Conan yeast, did not harvest any during fermentation
