Good flavor BUT needs more body
by MartyMar
Lot's of good flavor, oak prevalent with nice roasted malts backbone and hint of vanilla. I added 5% grain bill of rolled oats. I get the slickness from the oats but the body is seriously thin. I'm calling it a dark holiday ale at this point. Mash was low as directed at 150 x 75mins, next time I would bump it up to at least 155F for more dextrinous body. Thanks for sharing the recipe, will brew again!
Thin body, with alot of flavor
by Dorimo
I agree, thin body with tons of flavor. I will be brewing it again with a mash at 156 and add oats. I found it enjoyable but just missing the body i hoped for
When you are ready to add the oak chips, spread them on a cookie sheet first, put them in the oven at 350F for 20 mins, then add to secondary for 7 days. For the vanilla beans, slice them in half, scoop out the inside stuff and discard, and add the beans directly for 7 days (with oak chips). This is an outstanding stout that really mellows out the longer you keep it.
