Taste Notes

Turned out pretty tasty for my first batch.

Notes

Ingredients were in a starter kit. Don’t know conditions of storage. Dry yeast may have been old. Didn’t know to refrigerate yeast or freeze hops before brew day. OG was estimated because I didn’t have a hydrometer yet. Didn’t realize the boil was never going to ramp up to 212 F. Cooked steeped water too long before adding LME. After adding LME, slow boil (not vigorous) occurred on an electric flat top at 206-208 F with ripples, steam, and condensation for 60 min. Aeration wasn’t the best after cooling. Pitch temp was 70 F. Ambient temp in finished basement of 68 F. High FG of 1.020, and low ABV of 2.9%. Beer temp on bottling day was 66.3 F. No broken bottles. Purchased a glass hydrometer, better thermometer, and drill mixer. Will get a hot rod heat stick when they’re back in stock. Wish list also includes thermostat controller and thermowell for kettle, bucket heating belt and thermowell, tilt hydrometer, flask stirplate heating belt and thermowell, oxywand, oxygen, steel fermenters, and Clawhammer 120V BIAB system.
