Taste Notes

Not bad at pitching. Pitched Noty at 75F at about 5:30 p.m. 1-24-13. tested at 1.010 on day seven. Kegged 2-1-13. First draw on 2-13-13. Tasty and according to style. A thin little bite at the end may go with another week in the keg. Bourbon very mild as is vanilla, but both do their part. I'd give it four stars and rate it at about a 38.

Notes

More Beer porter kit I will use as basis for vanilla-bourbon version. Mash began with 18 qts at 153 (approx 168 at mash in). Did not add black patent. (Will try at my version od adding roasted grain at vorlauf by adding when I stir the last two minutes of the mash.) At 30 min stir and temp check was ok at 151. Will add one vanilla bean (scraped and cut in half inch chunkd) to 3 oz. Jack Daniels and 10 0z. Maker's Mark whiskey and let them be infused till I go into the keg. Whiskey will be added directly to the keg before filling with fermented beer.
