Taste Notes
The cannabis wash adds flavour, aroma and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. It has a divine synergy with hops in abundance.
It works just like edibles but from all observations, a lot quicker. Depending on stomach contents the effects can be felt within 20 minutes. Serve only pot size to newbies, and still only take it pint at a time with veterans. It's easy to forget the alcohol content during a session.Notes
The aim is to have a high enough alcohol percentage for the hash to be suspended in the brew. The hash extract is added directly into the keg, with the finished beer then being added on top. With this brew I intend to filter it after the dryhop, directly on top of the hash. I generally fast force carb, so it gets enough of an agitation to mix.
To make the hash extract, chop up your choice cuts. 28g to every 21L@ 10% is what I follow, no maths behind my logic, but I don't have residuals on the bottom of the keg from this ratio. Using 2xHPDE containers, put the bud in one container and a funnel lined with a coffee filter in the other. All up using about 1L of acetone (as close to 100% as you can get) rinse the buds in 3 separate batches, so using about 330ml of acetone per wash. screw the cap on your container and shake for about 10 seconds, then quickly pour the contents into the funnel. Repeat until no more acetone. You don't want too much contact time between acetone and buds or you will extract too much chlorophyll. Everything we want to extract is on the surface.
Spread the wash out over a Pyrex baking dish and place under/next to a fan and let evaporate. If you didn't use 100% acetone there will be left over water which doesn't evaporate. When you get to this point just tip it out. It doesn't hold anything you want in it. Even if you use 100% the acetone will still draw a certain amount of water from the air. Tip it out the same.
Once you have your plate of resin, it needs to be resuspended to transport to your keg. I use a product called spiritus. Here in Aus you can get it for about $60-70. It's 96% polish vodka. Pour about 100ml into the dish and move it around until everything has been suspended. Now you're ready to taint your brew.
CAUTION: ACETONE IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND CAN IGNITE AT TEMPERATURES UNDER 40C. USE ONLY IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AND HANDLE WITH EXTREME DILIGENCE
