Notes
Created yeast starter around 8 pm 9/6
I put 1/4 of yeast starter, 100 grams of Briess Dried Malt Extract(pilsen light) into becker and then 4.25 cups of water and boiled it for 7 mins with 1 boil over. I then put it in ice and cooled it to 70 f.
I then shook the becker for 1 min picked the yeast smack pack that had been smacked over 3.5 hrs ago. I started the stirplate at 9/6 at 9:10 pm
Strike Water = 16.79 qt = 4.2 gals heat to 163f and then cover at 152f
covered at 150f even though the electrionic said 161f.
It was at 150f according to thermo at 30 mins
It was at 150f at 60 min mark - zero heat loss
We got 2 2/3 inital wort and then up to 5 gals for the first batch sparge and 7.5 after second sparge
Batch Sparge 5.41 gal at around 172f
two batches of water at 10.82 qt at 172 each
Started to heat the wort at 1:16
Pitch yeast at 68F at 3:40pm
9/7 Ferment at 68F and is burping at 8:18am Sunday morning
9/19 Moved to 5 gal bucket with 1.4 lb of unsweet coconut into the bucket into side a paint bag
9/24 Removed coconut from secondary bucket
- the 5 marbles in the bag did not weigh it down and the bag was on top of the bucket when I opened it.
10/8 Put in keezer and added 9psi of gas
10/11 we starting drinking and it. There is no coconut flavor and does have a high alcohol flavor.
