Notes
Mashed with 7.5 gallons which is a good amount to mash with, not too much where the grain escapes the bag.
Heated water to 162, dropped grains used clips to hold the grain bag in place as I disconnected the BIAB hook.
Had lots of dough balls, broke those up well with the paddle. Stirred grist well, covered and cozied. Mashed for 90mins. Temp at end of mash was 152. It was 60 degrees out with NO wind
Heat 7.5 gallons to 175, dunk, stir, pull and squeeze bag.
Topped up to 8.5 gallons.
Going to keep boil at a slow roll.
Post boil was at 7.5 gallons so there was a 1 gallon boil off - with a slow to slow moderate boil.
Beer Smith lied on the color. Always err on the light side. In the next batch brew with the color slider about 20% in the green (from left) and see how it does. This turned out way dark, again. So try to make the beer on the light side next time.
Put into fermenter at 3am on 2016-Jan-01
Adjust: Chocolate Wheat Malt from 8ozs to 2ozs in design.
Adjust: top up pre-boil to 9 gallons (for a 6 gallon batch), 8 gallons for a 5 gallon batch.
Adjust: get steel wool scruby to attach to drain to act as a filter, be sure to add this prior to adding water to the kettle.
Adjust: Finished WAY bitter reduce crystal malts to 4ozs.
Bottled: 2016-Jan-24 using 4.5 ocs of corn sugar. Added sugar and beer to bottling bucket and let sit for ~8 hours. Stirred well prior to bottling got 56 bottles. This Recipe Has Not Been Rated
