Notes

9/4/17 cap cloride cap gyp no-sparge 153 Chinook, Galena, Willamette 80 IBU 5/23/15 - used 2 tbs gypsum in mash water mash @ 154 w/ 1.35 ratio for water. checked the box for "adjust for equipment" added water at suggested temp w/o grain. checked temp after 3 minutes. temp was at unchecked temp. added grain...stirred for 2 minutes and hit mash temp. covered with sweatshirts for 75 min mash Substitutions: Chinook for Galena (store out of galena) SG 1.070 wanted a bit lower abv so diluted a bit... pitch @ 68* basement 65* 1/25/15 mash at 154 for 75min 150 at end... 1.080 1.020 7/26/14 brew day started earlyer than usual. heated strike water to 168. used liter jug to dump water in mash tun until pot was light enough. dumped 5.3gal of water in MT. temp dropped a bit while i let the tun heat up. then doughed in...this is where the frantic activity started. once everything was mixed up and i closed the lid, the temp was 147. I added 2-3 liters of hot water to reach the mash rest temp of 149. actually landed at 150 about 25 mins in to the 75 minute rest. so 147 @ 25mins then 150 @ 50mins. then drained wort andd added batch sparge water 3 gal @ 168. let rest for another 30 mins. started boiling first runnings while batch sparge was resting. added the rest and boiled. prob had about 6.7 gal. 90 minute boil means boil off was higher today than last time. ended with 5 gals exactly into fermenter. I could have added the wort that was left in the tun... hop additions were normal... All hop measurements were true to form of my LHBS all were aboit .1-.2 oz over. chilled wort using prechiller and second pot full of ice. chilling time was just about 30 minutes. i should try to use the larger tub and bottled ice water as a bath for the brew pot and the wort chiller. also my chiller blows... whipped wort and yeast after pitch for 3 minutes. FG 1.076. Missed target by .004. May have been the missing wort left in the MT or the temps being off so the mash rest was actually too short.
