Taste Notes
strike temp was 168 to target a 155 mash temp. Struggled with the new pump, probably lost some temp there. Came in at 139. Hermsed it up to 156 and set the timer.
Mash sat there for a good 30 minutes too low. Turns out to be not a problem according to T. It’s okay to mash in low like mid 130s and herms up.
mash pH: 5.5, then 5.3
sparge arm finally worked with the riptide. but I think I oversparged. I went too fast and possibly added to much water.
But water quantities came from BS3
Ended up with 8.5 gallons pre-boil.
pre-boil OG: 1.040 :( oversparged.
pre boil mash 5.3
I wasnt sure how to calculate the pre boil volume.
Boiled for 90 minutes. Finished at 6.0 gallons.
so boil off rate was 2.5 gallons over 2 hours, so 1.25 gallons/hour.
OG: 1.060, just off by a few points.
dry hopped 2/20 9:00 pm.
3 oz in a hop sock with a marble.
gravity on 2/20 : 1.036
