Hi beer masters. I would really like some help with this one. With all the buzz about White House beer, I got interested in the possibility of making beer according some "original" recipes. Specifically, the famous "George Washington" recipe. Turns out it is available online here

<http://exhibitions.nypl.org/treasures/items/show/130>
and in places on the net.

But if you take a look at the ingredients and method, it doesn't seem so easy to convert it to current techniques.

So I made an effort to do this in BeerSmith. But it doesn't look like this recipe would turn out too well.

So here's my request to this beer-loving community. Can anyone convert the original Washington recipe for "Small Beer" to a recipe that could be made these days? What does "a large Sifter full of Bran Hops" MEAN? What yeast would be best? The molasses, I get.

If we could figure out this recipe in the next week or so, a batch could be ready to taste by President's Day!

Many thanks!
