RED-EYE-P-A (Imperial Red IPA)
by bfriend54I brewed this using my 3 gallon BIAB setup. It was inspired by Alesmith's Yulesmith Christmas beer. I'm a big IPA fan and thought I'd like to try to brew something similar. I started with a Pliny the Elder clone recipe and modified the grain and hops bill using Beersmith2. I used White Labs San Diego Super Yeast without a starter and worked really well. So well in fact that I lost about 0.4 gallons through the blowoff tube. Next time I'll make sure I have more headspace in the fermenter… In my past BIAB attempts my alcohol content was somewhat lower than than my target so this time I aimed a little higher, but in fact I think I hit the target this time. The OG on this beer was 1.090 and FG about 1.012…about 10% ABV.. It does't taste very boozy though… It's pretty smooth,,,Great hop flavor and bitterness.. The finish is a little dry compared to what I would like. I'll have to research what to do to modify that for next time...
